William Eustis plans for New London, 1812 August 25.

A letter written to Capt. C.D. Wood in New London, Connecticut, from William Eustis of the War Department. Eustis instructs Wood to begin repairs to Fort Trumbull and Fort Griswold. He also enclosed a plan for a new fort to protect New London Harbor.

William Henry Eustis (1845-1928) was a noted philanthropist and beloved citizen of Minneapolis. He came to Minnesota in 1881 while prospecting and built a large fortune through real estate acquisitions. Disabled due to an accident while he was a teen, Eustis gave much of his fortune to charity, especially the Dowling School in Minneapolis, which cared for crippled children.
